My work has included Architectural, Interior, Graphic and Product design for private, public and non-profit organizations and individuals. More recently I have added web design services. Some examples of each of these areas is provided below. In addition, my Resume provides a more comprehensive listing of my work experience, projects and writing.
Web Design
My entry into the world of web design began with the Cal Poly Architecture Department website. Following its competition the College of Architecture & Environmental Design asked me to implement Architecture's template throughout the college. I stopped working with these sites in 2009 and they migrated to the new university template in 2012.
Since retiring I have developed my own website and others for individuals and non-profit organizations. I have recently redesigned and constructed the new SLOBC website and designed and constructed the SLO Quilters website.
Graphic Design
My years in graphic design have been largely in the area of corporate identity programs. What this means is that I look at all projects as part of a larger whole. How any organization or business appears to their members or clients is not a function of any one piece but the sum total of all the ways they present themselves. As I design individual pieces I am always considering the larger whole.
Jersey Design
Several of my jersey designs have been selected by the San Luis Obispo Bicycle Club. The images show the concepts provided Voler along with my digital art. The artist at Voler adjust the designs to meet production requirements. I have learned a great deal about the constraints affecting jersey design.
CAED Business Card
Business cards are the iconic element of the basic corporate identity program including a logo, letter head and envelope. This card is part of the basic set I designed for the College of Architecture & Environmental Design.
The majority of my graphic design work has been in the area of corporate identity programs. These programs have not only included the typical logo, business card, letterhead and envelope but has also included business documents, brochures, advertisements, trade show displays, etc. and at times product, interior and architectural design.
CAED Review
In 2007 the CAED wanted to reinstitute their newsletter that had been dormant for several years and asked me to design it for them. You can download a PDF version of the 2007 CAED Review to see the entire publication.
I have designed many newsletters, brochures, and flyers over the years for a variety of businesses and organizations. The process always allows me to learn new things and develop collaborative working relationships.
Quilt Design
Thanks to Janis' involvement in the SLO Quilt Guild, I had the opportunity to work with the Sew Whatz Quilt Group to design a quilt. I created the block and provided input in terms of the quilt layout and fabric values. The group provided their marvelous sensitivity to fabric color and pattern and their skills as quilters. We were delighted with this collaboration. I enjoy designing things in new areas.
Architectural Design
